Lizard: The last time we
met was for the Italian
mini-tour support for Spellbound
Sessions without Robb: how was
the experience and how Robb is
now?
Jacopo Meille: (He puts
his hands in his hair) How was
the experience ... The
experience has been tragically
in the sense that being told to
12 hours after the start of the
tour that he is in hospital
because of kidney stones should
be operated from ... the one
hand you like a mad hyena,
because it was something he was
dragging a long time, until he
could no longer put off
completely, the other six
worried. To be honest, I have
been to insist on starting the
same. I say that honestly, maybe
it had not been we would not
have left Italy. I thought that
in Italy, not so much to me as a
person, as a singer, but rather
that as an Italian, if someone
had asked why there was Robb,
could explain why in Italian,
that was sick! Sorry, but we'll
do the best show possible,
consistent with the fact that
there is no fundamental
character as Robb. It 'was good,
because then this thing came
from the realization that the
group there and then you can go
ahead. Robb is back, is back in
office than ever. The proof is
that, since he is back,
including concerts, rehearsals,
ideas, input, and whatever else
is absolutely 1000%. It 'was,
like so many times, experience a
little' well, I do not hide that
I turned a lot.
Lizard: The report of
that evening, however, I pointed
out that the concert was
beautiful. Also because the lack
of a second guitar had perhaps
put more light on the soul hard
rock band, that I was not
disappointed at all!
Jacopo Meille: You know
... The Tygers are a strange
beast music. If you talk to him,
Robb says, "we are not heavy
metal" and not in a derogatory,
mind you. We're hard rock, a
rock band that writes songs with
aggressive riffs and fast, with
quick turnarounds. Aggressive
for the time: if I think a song
like Hellbound, which by then
had all the hype, now with what
has been pushing the speed, is
almost a pop song. I quote one
of the favorite bands of Robb,
Motorhead: I'm not a heavy metal
band, but rock and roll, to a
monstrous volume, but rock and
roll. The same was for Robb: He
tells you who grew up with Thin
Lizzy, Motorhead and all groups
of the '70s. Then he says he did
not have the time, because it
lasted so short and so intense,
that there was no possibility of
questioning. Before they had
even challenged, have imploded
and this left them, in some
respects, quite pure. Imagine
that after The Cage was made a
record, never released, a disk
phantom, which Robb does not
remember anything. Eventually,
however, The Cage was the disc
that has been most successful of
all, a sort of Hysteria first
six years, and was too far
ahead, not by chance was
produced by Peter Collins who
then worked with Rush Hold Your
Fire, at that time when hard
rock winked at the league
because he could go in the
championship and then became a
sort of hybrid. That album is a
hybrid, in which they play the
songs written in a certain way,
while the songs that the label
itself as the Paris By Air or
Rendezvous pushing in another
direction. I recommend everyone
to try a live promotional tour
of The Cage, Japan, where the
songs on that album have a big
space. Among other things, a
good recording, directly from
the mixer, in which, arise all
the "sound" 80's, even pieces
like Letters From LA Their
identities had a beautiful rock.
In fact, we spoke with Robb to
do it again letting the guitar
to drive and could be a way to
make dignity to these pieces.
Lizard: At the end, Love
Potion # 9 because it has a
live!
Jacopo Meille: Love
Potion # 9 is one of my favorite
songs (laughs) because it is a
wonderful version of a classic
'50s Lieber and Stoller. It 'a
more than decent! Love Potion #
9 has a problem that depending
on where we're going to play, we
can make it or not. There are
countries in Europe that if we
mess happens: we risked a
beating, with me in the front
row to say "calm, it's just a
song, two-minute"! On the other
hand, if we do not happen in
England and in Italy a scramble
is required. Let's say that in
some countries where the classic
heavy metal is stronger,
possibly have to play the songs
of the first two discs and on.
Lizard: Anyway I saw that
the tracks are offered by Animal
Instinct live.
Jacopo Meille: We
propose, of course. In the tour
mentioned earlier we opened with
Rock Candy, we never proposed
and I think it's a great piece.
We are aware of who we are, in
the sense that the new discs are
needed and make them mostly to
ourselves, to maintain the
balance between past and present
music and for anyone who wants
to give us credit. But we are
aware that, from the moment we
are invited to a festival that
is called Keep It True or
Headbangers Open Air, our
function is to take a step back
in time. We are pleased and we
recognize this, because I now I
hear those songs my own, thanks
to Robb that I was never forced
to sing the songs in the manner
in which the singing Jess Cox
and Jon Deverill. I have always
said that I was the singer and I
sing like the Tygers felt. So in
that respect I have always felt
free. But our purpose is: we are
a group that also has a past
that we seek to promote and say
that on average at least two
songs from Animal Instinct to
offer, especially now, with new
record out, we will try to give
a refreshed and put at least
three new songs. Also because to
create and maintain a link with
the past was a joint decision:
if we wanted to make a record
"modernist" we changed the name.
If your name Tygers people will
identify with a certain sound,
then within this "container" you
can play as much, at least as I
see it, but you should be aware
that this name has pros and
cons.
Lizard: A few years since
you joined the band, you feel
the lead singer of Tygers in
effect?
Jacopo Meille: Look, Fugo
doubt: I have always made me
feel the lead singer of Tygers!
The very fact that I now have
permission to edit the pieces or
at least be an integral part of
the creative process, making me
even though I write the lyrics
is not a native speaker ... It
could be a legitimate request
from them saying that they would
take care of the texts, Instead
there is a complete
collaboration. Then, in the case
of Tygers drummer and I are
doing everything and we are
working very well for four
hands, the work is symbiotic. So
yes, I've always felt a member
of Tygers, and I do not think we
were ever thoughts and whatever
you think people have a group in
England and living in Florence
is this so impossible or
difficult. Yes, there is the
appearance of flying at times
but in the end it took me less
to go to London to play with
them to go to Rome or Milan to
see a concert! It 'just a matter
of mind. I understand that some
people can be difficult, but
when they agree to do and see
that it is absolutely worth it,
which is a very important thing,
this thing is not so difficult.
