You have to believe that in 2024
some of the most beautiful
flagships of the NWOBHM are
still in great shape. Saxon
showed this with his new album
Hell Fire And Damnation. Bruce
Dickinson is still inventive as
he demonstrates very well on his
latest solo album The Mandrake
Project. But there is also
another combo that bursts with
fire from God. And this combo is
Tygers Of Pan Tang.
Indeed, since the arrival of
their transalpine singer Jacopo
Meille, the group has performed
flawlessly. First of all, the
studio albums are all
unstoppable with an incredible
number of songs of rare quality.
Always dynamic, always melodic
but above all always effective.
Certainly, the line-up is not
100% stable, but this is only
incidental because Robb Weir
keeps an eye on things in a
remarkable way.
The other strong point is that
in concert the Tygers Of Pan
Tang do not disappoint either.
Even better, it looks like young
men are playing. Always dynamic
and efficient.
Well the proof is this great
Live Blood which is released in
April 2024. The set list is
copious, no less than 19 titles
are offered on the vinyl
version. This is a concert
captured in 2023 at The Patriot,
a venue in Wales. The least we
can say is that the production
is top notch. The musicians are
sharp and in good shape. The two
new additions Francesco Marras
(guitar) and Huw Holding (bass)
are perfectly integrated. Craig
Ellis on drums is incredibly
efficient. Unsurprisingly Robb
Weir is imperial. And Jacopo…
sings as if his life depended on
it.
The other nice observation is
that the group's old
compositions go very well with
the new ones. In this regard, we
will remember a terrible “Edge
Of The World”, a melodic
“Destiny” and a very good “Only
The Brave” which do more good
than kicks in the ass.
Obviously, nostalgic fans will
enjoy the group's classics.
Personally, I have a big
weakness for their terrible
“Hellbound” which takes on a new
lease of life here because it is
very dynamic.
Basically, this live is a must
have for any self-respecting
heavy music fan. Tygers Of Pan
Tang is here to kick your butt
again. Basically, it’s
reassuring.
