Among the most prolific bands of
recent years, we certainly find
the now Anglo / Italian Tygers
Of Pan Tang, in fact between
reissues, new albums, singles
and Ep the original member Robb
Weir and the band know no
pauses, not even the lockdown
has slowed them down and if they
could not play live, they
composed new songs and made a
couple of line-up changes. The
Italian component represented by
the talented Jack Meille on
vocals is strengthened with the
entry on the guitar of the
talented Francesco Marras, all
this produces this Ep released
at the beginning of the year,
where we find four songs, two
unreleased and two re-proposed
in a new version with the
contribution by Marras and the
new (for now only in studio)
bassist Gav Gray, as the
official bassist will be Huw
Holding. Let's start with the
new ones. The title track has
the air of the Tyger, a classic
heavy metal song made fresh and
bubbly by an excellent
production, the members of the
band are mega close-knit, the
new ones are not affected by the
emotion, live this song will
spark! Marras expresses the best
of himself, Weir, Gray and Ellis
do the rest. Powerful and
devastating! There's no point in
talking about Jack, imperious as
ever. 'Red Mist' rides the
seventies wave revised and
corrected to our times, classic
and modern intertwine in a
winning way. Adrenaline-fueled
hard rock, incessant drums,
guitars that grind relentlessly,
melodic break and off again.
Really nice! If the conditions
for the new album are these we
are on the eve of a crazy
record. We then come to the two
songs proposed from the past,
exactly from 'Wild Cat', which
was the debut of TOPT. The first
is 'Fireclown', that is to say,
a devastating rhythm section, a
bass that guides the whole piece
and drums that beat like there
was no tomorrow. Tribal and
energetic as never before,
absolutely to be re-proposed
live! I would like to point out
the decisive contribution of
Francesco Marras, a super entry
for the band without detracting
from his predecessor. compared
to the original I would say that
here we are light years ahead,
welcome rediscovery. 'Killers'
closes and the furious
headbanging starts. Even this,
compared to the original,
acquires vitality and energy,
vigorous enough, it relives its
ancient splendour involving us
to the maximum, five minutes of
pure lust for the ears! In
short, an Ep that is not a
simple filler this 'A New
Heartbeat' but something to have
in your discography next to the
best heavy metal records of your
collection!
