The originally British Tygers Of Pan Tang was one of the founders of NWOBHM. The band was formed in 1978 and the first albums, 'Wild Cat' (1980) and 'Spellbound' (1981), received critical acclaim everywhere. After that it went a bit downhill for the band, also due to numerous changes in the line-up. In 1987 the musical curtain seemed to fall for Tygers Of Pan Tang. In 1999 original guitarist Robb Weir revived the band. Also during this period the line-up changed a few times and that is also the case for this four track EP. In addition to Robb Weir (guitar) you can hear Craig Ellis (drums since 2000), Jacopo Meille (vocals since 2004), Francesco Marras (guitar since 2020) and Gav Gray (bass since 2012, but recently replaced by Huw Holding). This new disc features two new songs – “A New Heartbeat” and “Red Mist” – and two re-recorded versions of songs from the band's very first full-length album. You immediately notice that the band has lost nothing in quality, energy and passion and that the “older” songs still guarantee a solid portion of melodic heavy metal. The two new songs actually fit in seamlessly with that. So it makes for a very powerful, but melodic foursome that lovers of sultry, the (sub)genre as well as the band can easily add to their collection. They won't be disappointed thanks to the very solid foundation, the beautiful structure of the songs, the power they emanate and the melody they contain. Add to that the powerful vocals and the pretty good guitar solos that Francesco knows how to conjure up from his instrument and you are set for a powerful yet melodic heavy metal moment.
