- 'Majors And Minors' Review

Tygers of Pan Tang, here we are
talking about a brick in the
history of music. We all love
that huge cathedral that is
Music itself, which I have
always seen as built on
countless bricks, some smaller
and others more consistent. From
indisputable pillars such as the
Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis,
Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath,
Queen and Iron Maiden, up to the
whole underground that adorns
the huge windows with
microscopic pieces. Now I wait
for you to reread the list made
earlier, and get angry for a
lack, or laugh for two of my
short outings. The fact is that
everything is based on bricks
more or less large, and with
Tygers of Pan Tang we are
talking about one of the
beautiful beams that adorn the
vault of the British Metal nave.
On May 28, 2021 their new album
“Majors and Minors” will be
released, under the Mighty Music
label, and I'm very happy about
it because I can have it for my
birthday. Happy yes, because the
release of this band, which I
have defined as the "beam" of
NWOBHM, brings together a
selection of songs written and
recorded over the last thirteen
years.
Is it a collection? Yes, approx.
Is it a record for collectors?
Yes, too. It is a work that
comes out in two versions: CD
and vinyl, in turn these two
versions (not just "formats")
contain different songs as
"Keeping Me Alive" will only be
available on vinyl and five
songs will only be available on
CD, I believe for media size
needs and exquisite trading
tactics.
But what do we expect from this
record? Well, in the meantime
being a sort of collection, I
expect all the great hits of the
last 13 years of music, this is
important for the sonic imprint
of the band, which remains firm
on the origins of what is
referred to as New Wave of
British Heavy Metal and which at
the same time evolves for our
times. A nice combination,
right? Last 13 years as with
songs from 2008 we mean since
the singer Jacopo Meille,
Florentine DOCG, but two-tone in
the Italian / British soul (not
the only Italian in formation,
now there is also the guitarist
Francesco Marras) .
I will not do a track-by-track,
many songs are already known
whether you are a fan or not, so
I will just say that the result
alternates very animated and
light songs, typical heavy
chunks, and songs with damn
catchy melodies. The bottom note
is the power of the sounds
typical of the genre and I don't
even think I will treat the
performance as we are talking
about "purebred horses" that do
their dirty work properly.
It remains to be discussed where
to listen to this record. In the
meantime, we are finally talking
about a job that exceeds the
hour. This is a joyful topic for
me, as I can hear more than a
full hour of different music. I
listened to the record both with
headphones, at home, and in the
car and I admit that the last of
the three plays, at high volume,
allows you to enjoy enough. It
is important to blow up the
genre and blow up every single
frequency of every single song,
while I do not recommend it as a
last listen to put during a
romantic dinner. So… enjoy it in
your own freedom as you whiz on
the freeway, and crank up the
bass!
The interesting alternative to
listening to disc will be seeing
them live on the tour they have
planned at the beginning of
2022, hoping to have them
"close" as soon as possible.
